Lee Named First Recipient of Prestigious Rhodes State College Community Award

 

LIMA, Ohio, September 23, 2020 at 9:30 am at Primrose Retirement Community in Lima.Wednesday, September 23Drs. Earl and Nancy Keese Community Leadership Award, a recipient of the honor has been chosen. Mrs. Alberta Lee, Rhodes State College Foundation Board member and longtime community servant and supporter, has been named the inaugural honoree. Dr. Cynthia E. Spiers, President; Ms. Jane Krites, Board of Trustees Chair; and Mr. Kevin Reeks, Vice President for Institutional Advancement presented the award in an outdoor ceremony on For the first time since the creation of the Rhodes State College

            Dr. Earl Keese, former president of Rhodes State College, and his wife, Nancy, established the award in order to recognize community leaders who have provided exceptional service, dedication and leadership to Rhodes State College. In Dr. Keese’s words, “The award is given in recognition of the true leader in all of us who have given exemplary service and shown outstanding leadership to further the mission of Rhodes State College. The purpose of the award is to pay homage to the individual and publicly acknowledge unique personal contributions to the College.”

Mrs. Lee has been involved in the College by serving on the Rhodes State College Foundation Board for the past six years. She has been supportive of the College with her expertise and contributions. In addition to serving on the Foundation Board, she was also a board member for the RSCF LIMA LLC and was involved in acquiring and holding properties for the site of the Center for Health Science Education and Innovation in downtown Lima. Alongside these commitments to service, Mrs. Lee is also very proud of her granddaughter, Andrea, who is a 2014 alumna of Rhodes State in Nursing and is an Obstetric Nurse at Mercy Health St. Rita’s.

In additional to her pride and investment in Rhodes State College, Mrs. Lee is a well-known presence in the Lima community. Her service and activities include membership on the Lima City Schools Board of Education for 19 years, service as an elected Allen County Commissioner beginning in 1991 and as President of the County Commissioner Association of Ohio in 1999. In 1981, she was elected to be the Allen County Recorder and was President of the Ohio Recorders Association in 1987. For 20 years, beginning in 1956, she was Realtor/Owner of Alberta Lee Realty. She has dedicated herself to the community through service on the Boards of Senior Citizens Services, United Way of Greater Lima, Allen County Fair and Lima Allen County Regional Transit Authority. Currently, Mrs. Lee is active on the Rhodes State College Foundation Board and with the Lima Rotary Club.

The inscription on the first-time award will read, “The Drs. Earl and Nancy Keese Rhodes State Community Leadership Award—Presented to Alberta M. Lee—In recognition of outstanding Service, Dedication and Leadership to Rhodes State College.”
