Barons Basketball Season Previews

Lima, OH – Barons Basketball is looking to make waves in the Ohio Regional Campus Conference this 2012-13 season after numerous changes to the rosters and coaching staff over the past year!

The Barons Men have already played a large number of pre-conference games against some very formidable opponents. Unfortunately they were unable to scrap out a win in their first seven contests. However, the games did what is most important by preparing the team for ORCC play as the Barons started of conference play on Wednesday, November 21st with a six point win over rival Wright State Lake!

Head Coach Nick Pittman is in his 2nd season with the Barons. Last year’s team was an exciting team to watch as the Barons were among the conference leaders in points scored per game as they fought their way to an ORCC record of 4 & 10 in the 2011-12 season. This year’s team has an increased depth of talent that promises to provide more of the same exciting basketball, but with the added depth, hopes are high that the Barons will contend for a title! Leading the way for the Barons will be the lone senior, Brady Schroeder. Schroeder, a Paulding High School graduate, has been a starter for the Barons each of the previous three seasons. His solid perimeter play and veteran leadership will be key to the success of this year’s team. The Barons have two sophomores on the squad as center, Greg Riemesch of Celina High School, and forward Craige Perry of Warrenville High School look to build on their freshman experience.

Ten freshmen make up the rest of the roster, and are where Coach Pittman is surely excited about his added depth and talent with his first recruiting class as Head Coach of the Barons. The four freshman guards are Alex Edson of Cory Rawson High School, Tyler Egbert of Botkins High School, Kaleb Secor of Willard High School, and Caleb Hodges of Lima Central Catholic High School. The three forwards are Evan Humes of Waynesfield Goshen High School, Craig Manger of Anna High School, and Andrew Freed of Elida High School. The two freshman centers are Zachary Gay of Spencerville High School, and Garrett Hauenstein of Waynesfield Goshen High School.

The Lady Barons have a new Head Coach this season in Phil Sensabaugh. Sensabaugh was previously the Lima Senior High School Girls Varsity Basketball coach. He has also coached at Wapakoneta High School, where he coached both the girls and boys AAU Basketball teams. A highlight of his coaching career came in 2000, when he led the local AAU boys team to a National Championship!

For the Lady Barons in this 2012-13 season, they are looking at a deep but young roster with 7 freshman and 3 sophomores. Last year’s Lady Barons struggled in ORCC play, only mustering one victory. Coach Sensabaugh hopes to have more success with this year’s squad, as the amount of talent returning and new has increased. Also, in pre-season preparation this year’s squad has been showing great dedication to the program, and they appear to be very enthusiastic about their abilities once the team gets some experience playing together.

The three sophomores are guard, Haylie Morris of Hardin Northern High School, guard, Kearra Cooper of Lima Shawnee High School, and forward, Dionna Hurley of Lima Senior High School. The seven freshmen are three guards and four forwards. The guards are Chelsee Gronas of Lima Perry High School, Kaylee Hooker of Hardin Northern High School, and Samantha Michel of Miller City High School. The forwards are Megan Luginbuhl of Bluffton High School, Taylor Woodie of Northmont High School, Jennifer Post of Spencerville High School, and Kristy Harris of Lima Senior High School.

The Barons next home contest is Sunday, December 2nd vs OU Chillicothe. The ladies will start at 1:00 and the men will start at approximately 3:00. Come on out to The Hangar and support your Barons!
