Rhodes State College Program Coordinator Appointed to Review Board

Rhodes State College Medical Assisting Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor, Cheryl Kuck, was recently appointed as a member of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB). MAERB members are educators from both public and private institutions, administrators from institutions with accredited medical assisting programs, practicing medical assistants, members of the public, and physicians. This appointment is for a term of two years.

The primary function of the MAERB is to evaluate postsecondary medical assisting programs for compliance with the Standards and Guidelines for Medical Assisting Programs adopted by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). CAAHEP is a nonprofit, allied health education organization whose purpose is to accredit entry-level, allied health education programs. The MAERB recommends programs to CAAHEP for accreditation based on this review.

According to Dr. Paula Boley, Health Sciences Division Dean at Rhodes State, “Cheryl is an extremely valuable member of our Division of Heath Sciences leadership team. She not only serves as the Coordinator of the Medical Assisting program, she is also responsible for many of the basic health science courses, such as Medical Terminology and Medical Law and Ethics. Nearly all of the health sciences students take classes that fall under her leadership. At the same time, she is investigating some new programs that may be offered in the near future. With this added acknowledgement of her expertise as a board member of MAERB combined with her years as a Medical Assistant and educator, Rhodes State has even more to offer our students in terms of excellence in education.”
