Esports Management and Coaching

Esports (also known as electronic sports, e-sports, or esports) is a form of video competition sport games. Competitive gaming has been around since the early 1970. This curriculum provides students insight into a quickly growing, internationally recognized competitive sport. The curriculum includes the history and foundation of Esports, coaching skills, the importance of communication in the competitive environment, and a capstone project. This 16-credit hour program can be completed online in ONE term.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that coaches/managers will grow by a rate of 11% through 2028, which is much faster than average for all occupations.

Program graduates have been employed in the following fields:

  1. Assistant Esports Coaches
  2. Assistant Esports Program Managers

Esports Management and Coaching:

Many high schools in the area host competitive Esports teams including;

  • Allen East
  • Crestview
  • Elida
  • Indan Lake
  • Shawnee
  • St. Mary's

In 2018 -2019 Shawnee High School won the Ohio State League of Legends’ Esports tournament.

Nick Rider, President of Esports Ohio, developed and will be teaching the Esports Management and Coaching certificate. Esports Ohio is an educational nonprofit Esports organization and league created by teachers for students. Esports Ohio sets up fall and spring tournament for high schools throughout the state of Ohio. The Esports Tournament draft schedules for fall 2020 and spring 2021 are currently on the website.

To be eligible for the following Esports Management and Coaching certificate, a student must have received a grade of “C” or better for each course required for the certificate and completed all required courses within four years of applying for the certificate.
